Answers to your questions about COSMOPLAST®
While It is impossible to stop time, with today’s technology you
can slow the effects aging has on your appearance. Small lines around
your lips, frown lines, scars, tissue loss from muscle atrophy,
and congenital defects can all be corrected without surgery using
CosmoPlast™. CosmoPlast is an FDA-approved human collagen dermal
filler that is safe and does not require a skin test prior to treatment.
Can anyone be treated with CosmoPlast®?
No. At your initial consultation, the doctor will review your medical
history to determine whether or not you are an appropriate candidate
for CosmoPlast collagen implants.
Do CosmoPlast® injections hurt?
Injections can be somewhat uncomfortable, however the CosmoPlast
implants contain a small amount of lidocaine that helps temoporarily
numb the area.
What do the results immediately after treatment?
Most people feel comfortable resuming normal activities immediately
following treatment. Some temporary swelling of the treated areas
should be expected, as well as temporary blushing, slight bruising
and tenderness around the treatment sites. Some people have also
reported an initial ability to feel the outline of the injected
collagen.
As the CosmoPlast conforms with your own skin, the treatment site
takes on the natural look of healthy skin. Any redness and visible
swelling persisting for more than a few days can indicate a reaction
to the filler, which should be reported to your doctor immediately.
How long does the CosmoPlast® last?
Touch-up injections are usually necessary to maintain optimal correction.
Most who choose to receive touch-ups choose to do so within 3 -
12 months of the original treatment series, however, less CosmoPlast
filler is necessary than what is injected during the initial treatment.
Preparing for your procedure
Before your treatment:
- 3 days before your appointment—stop taking blood thinners (such
as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s
Wort, and Vitamin E) because they may increase bruising or bleeding
at the injection site.
- If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there
is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another
recurrence. Prescription medication can be taken prior to the
treatment. If you think you need a prescription, inform our office
prior to treatment and we can provide you with a prescription.
After your procedure
After treatment:
- Like any injection procedure, there are risks of infection,
lumpiness, redness, swelling, pain, itching, discoloration or
tenderness at the implant site. Typically, this resolves within
2 to 3 days after the injection.
- Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce
swelling.
- Hypersensitivity has been reported in about 1 in every 5000
treated patients. This consists of excessive swelling and firmness,
and is usually self-resolved in about 2 weeks.
- You should not expose the treated area to heat (such as sunbathing
or tanning booths)
- Avoid touching the treated area within 6 hours following treatment.
After 6 hours the area can be gently washed with soap and water.
- Avoid exercise and alcohol for 6 hours post treatment.
- Evidence shows that having touch-up treatment before the product
has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect. Consult
your physician about recommendations for such touch-up treatments.
Call our office at (877) 414 -8346 if there are any signs of infection, severe redness, swelling &/or drainage of the treated areas.
